The Tyger: Nila and Kirstine

  1. We have chosen this picture because the tyger was described as a aggressive and wild animal, which it looks like in this picture. We talked about how God could create such a bad and dangerous animal as the tyger if he was the one who also created all the good things like the Lamb. He asks how God can seize the fire if God is good.

  2. Is God evil because he created the tyger and fire?
Basically the tyger is described as a horrific creature in the poem and we also associate the tyger with words like: unpredictable, hunter, aggressive, wild, independent and so on.
When he in the poem is criticizing God for being evil because he created bad things like the tyger and fire it is blasphemy. The poem is clearly from the romantic age because of his use of elements from the nature such as the four elements: fire, earth, water and wind. These elements are shown as synonymies to earth-forest, water-tears, wind-heaven and fire-fire.
By the use of different body parts of the tiger he gives it some human behaviors.

  3. The tyger and the lamb are to contrasts. The tyger is wild, aggressive, a loner, dangerous, big and agile whereas the lamb is gentle, good, lives in groups, small, innocent and harmless.
The lamb is more childish written while The Tyger is more grown-up and seriously.
The mood in the two poems are also very different. The Lamb is more happy and light whereas The Tyger is dark and mysterious.
